How do you share your files from your external Hard Drive on your home Network?

My roommates and I all share an internet connection on one network at our apartment. How do I allow them to pull files off of my external Hard Drive through our network? We are able to see each other’s computer and access each other’s files that are shared on each of our main Hard Drives, but when they need to get files off my external hard drive they aren’t allowed access.
